No Borders Comes To Bangalore

When No Borders Shop and Journal decided to create ‘An Ode To Bangalore’, we wanted to open our doors and hearts to a city that has made us feel at home during the uncertain times of the pandemic. We wanted to be able to meet all the people of Bangalore that have helped us create such a beautiful community in the city and introduce you to art, fashion, film, books, music, decor and food from around the world that inspire us everyday. Our event on 30th July at The Courtyard is a true celebration of our culture, our roots, creativity and the city we cherish.

Paying homage to the Garden City, our little NB Garden is perfect for a picnic - with Aruna, our neighbourhood flower seller, greeting you with a flower for your hair, henna for your hands, handpoked tattoos by Ishra Philipose, surprise live sets to dance to and boardgames to enjoy.

Sneak peek of No Borders X Chef Karan Upmanyu

Savour food and cocktails from our special NB-inspired menu, created by us in collaboration with Chef Karan Upmanyu. Each dish brings together the heart and familiarity of Bangalore's local dishes together with experimental flavours of global food that's made a place in our heart.

Aravani Art Project

Aravani Art Project, a collective movement working to enable the Trans community through visual arts, social experiments and magic, will be part of our colourful garden space with their immersive art experience that you can join in.

Via On The Jungle Floor

On The Jungle Floor, an India-based online record store, will be bringing a great selection of vinyls to groove to as you shop our special curation of NB Food with artisanal products like mithai from Pistabarfi, spices and honey from Valley Culture India, and more. Our NB Home curation is filled with innovative creators like Kapu Glass and Pari Pari that will brighten up any home.

In true No Borders Shop fashion, we are bringing exclusive pieces from some of our favourite designers from around the world like Amesh, Kokun, Story MFG, Prxkhxr and James Ferreira to the event. To add to it, you’ll also have a chance to shop our incredible collection of vintage clothing that we have lovingly and carefully collected over the years on our travels around New York, Paris and London.

Our workshops are truly where our hearts lie.

11am to 12.30pm: Ajija Sultana - a Kantha artisan from Bengal - will be coming to our event in Bangalore to teach us the age-old embroidery technique with her decades of knowledge and skilled hands in our Kantha Workshop. Bring your own fabric, clothes or bags to add a touch of Kantha to your belongings.

Via Oshadi Collective

1pm to 3pm: Our Blockprinting Workshop and Interaction will be helmed by Nishanth Chopra of Oshadi Collective - a slow fashion brand with a seed-to-sew supply chain and a regenerative farm in Erode, that also provides what they create to designers around the world. Learn the historic art of Blockprinting, create your own on fabrics and converse with him about bringing back ancient techniques and what we can do to be kinder to our surroundings.

Via Moondust Ceramics

2pm to 4pm: Upcoming ceramic artist Nagasindhu Nandakumar, founder of pottery studio Moondust Ceramics, will be giving us a brief introduction into clay and hand-building in her Ceramic Workshop. You'll be able to create your very own trinket dishes to use to store jewellery, as ashtrays, as serving dishes or whatever your heart desires.

The Floating Magazine via Studio Kohl India

In our dedicated No Borders Journal studio, we're bringing you some of the best short films from around Asia discussing themes of identity, women's rights, fashion and more - curated by us with Nowness Asia. Take a graphic journey through Indian art inspired tattoos with Swasthik Iyengar who has spent years delving into the rich history of the country for her work. Witness upcoming and renowned artists in a gallery viewing experience that will remain with you well after it's over and shop graphic novels and zines from creators like The Floating Magazine and authors at Yoda Press. Our NB Library and reading corner allows you to shop and relax with our curated selection of authors from around the world.

Dhakayeah

We’ll also have prints from artists and photographers from our tight-knit global community that have continued to inspire us over the years. You can shop incredible prints that capture quaint Indian corners from photographers like Mancie Rathod, Keegan Crasto and Tiya Tejpal; and art prints from artists like Amrit Singh Sandhu, Dhakayeah and Anjali Mehta that bring their identity and culture to each of their works.

We can't wait for you to experience this labor of love and be part of this amazing day that we've created for you. Coming together with our community, sharing a meal, having a laugh over art and clothes we love - it's everything we've always hoped to do!
